“HD” Videos

So one of our competitors for RJ is saying that they are the first Persian site to bring HD music videos. However, it’s a false claim because their videos are not high definition at all! The videos are only 720×480, and the “HD” that we’re used to hearing about is at minimum 720p which is defined 1280×720. Not only that, but “HD” videos are usually 1 Mbit/sec. The biggest flaw is the fact that they are using FLV (Flash) codec to present the videos. Well, FLV really compresses down the image quality in the video. You can tell by watching the video on Bia2.com on how crappy it looks.

I guess I shouldn’t be totally surprised by the misleading claim. I mean, most Persian sites aren’t exactly driven by new and good technology, which is a shame within itself.

Normally, I don’t get into this stuff too much, but this one was so wrong that I felt it warranted some attention. To set the record straight our current videos on RJ are 572×320 but encoded in high-quality H.264 format with hardly any loss from the original source (whatever that maybe). While we don’t market our videos falsely as “HD”, they are the highest quality Persian videos you will find online.
